THE DREADED VIRUS; HIV AND AIDS
Hiv and Aids are two different things. Hiv is a virus and Aids is a condition that develops from an hiv infected person.
The first aids case was reported about twenty five years ago and since, the effort to stop it begun imeiately. Scientists have been working day and night to find a means of putting total end to this pandemic. The first case was reported in America but after five to six years, the first aids patient was discovered in Nigeria, which brought the reality that the spread had reached Africa and even Nigeria has been affected.
As a matter of fact, the number of aids patient in NIgeria is increasing geometrically leaving the country that has a population of about 120 million people, with five million people living with HIV, which has given some aids.
Though the rapid increase in the number of aids patients has been checked but I still wonder why the increase is still going at a steady rate.
Different programmes have been designed to create awareness that will enligthen the people about HIV/AIDS as it was discovered in Nigeria that one of the major reasons for the geometrical increase is IGNORANCE. Media houses are doing their best in the aids awareness campaign, different NGOs are playing their necessary part. Government also is trying to stop the spread. But despite the awareness effort, some people still believes that HIV is not real, that AIDS is not existing. Some still goes about having unprotected sex. Barbers still uses unsterilized clippers among others. In the manicure and pedicure sector, same is the story. Some quack doctors still transfuses blood without proper screening. All sort of negligences still goes on in the medical laboratories. How then do we stop the spread?
Three methods have since been discovered. Abstinence, faithfulness to a partner and condom usage. People still find it difficult to comply and take to these methods. Though in my candid opinion, abstaining form sex till the right time is the surest way to staying clear of HIV/AIDS. But if that cannot be practised, faithfulness to a partner and using condom are there to practise to control the spread till the precious VACCINE is discovered.
As touching those who are already infected, they shouldn't be avoided. They are still normal people. You cannot contact HIV by having handshake with them. Hugging them will cause no harm. RELATE with them.
If you already have the HIV?AIDS, you can still live for a relatively long period if you avoid unnecessary thinking because that is what brings early death to aids patient.
If you are out there and don't know your status, go for a TEST today!
